Whidbey Island Music Festival is thrilled to announce the opening concert of its 2024/25 Summer Festival season with "Bach Cantatas and Concertos." This highly anticipated event will take place on two dates: Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 3:00 PM at First Reformed Church in Oak Harbor, and Sunday, June 23, 2024, at 3:00 PM at St. Augustine’s in the Woods in Freeland.


Bach’s cantatas are renowned for their profound beauty and emotional depth, offering endless sources of inspiration, comfort, and joy, especially during challenging times. Join us for an afternoon featuring America's leading baroque oboist, Debra Nagy, alongside two acclaimed Bach singers, Tyler Duncan and Clara Rottsolk. They will be accompanied by a stellar ensemble of baroque specialists.

The program includes:

  • Cantata: "Ich habe genug," BWV 82 by J.S. Bach

  • Cantata: "Ich bin vergnügt in meinem Glücke," BWV 84 by J.S. Bach

  • Cantata: "Liebster Jesu, mein Verlangen," BWV 32 by J.S. Bach

  • Concerto for Oboe and Violin in C Minor, BWV 1060 by J.S. Bach


In an interactive twist, audience members will be invited to sing along during the chorales in these cantatas, fostering a communal and immersive experience. The concert will culminate with the beloved Concerto for Oboe and Violin, showcasing the extraordinary talents of Tekla Cunningham and Debra Nagy.
